The Band have returned to Parsons Green (our former home) for the weekend in order to close the annual Parsons Green Fair.

Under the baton of Alan Duguid, the Band entertained the crowds with a selection of light music ranging from brass band classics to more contemporary theme tunes and followed a very pleasant afternoon of music with a few drinks at the White  Horse (an old band favourite).

Fulham Brass Band at the Royal Festival Hall Fulham attended the Royal Festival Hall on Friday night to appear in BBC Radio 3’s Brass on the Bridges feature, the grand opening to their Light Fantastic Festival. Fulham Band have enjoyed another Whit Friday weekend in 2011! As last year, the band performed at the Whit Walks on Friday morning in Mossley, before taking part in seven contests around the Saddleworth area. Our Lady Gaga compilation went down splendidly in every village and other highlights from the weekend included a guest percussionist in Uppermill, a last minute dash (beer in hand / chips in bell) to the start line at Greenfields and a Born-Free-Challenge introduction to Ravenswood at Scouthead.

On Saturday 26th February 2011, Fulham began to move out of the British Legion, which has been their home for the past 10 years. Several volunteers took on the non-insubstantial task of moving music, instruments, uniforms and the like, from various locations dotted around the Legion.

The move has been necessitated by changes at the Fulham Branch of the Royal British Legion and we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with hosting us over the last 10 years. They have been kind and generous hosts and we would like to thank them all for their efforts, time and flexibility. I am sure that we will maintain the excellent links forged with the Legion over the coming years.

On February 19th, members of the Fulham Brass Band featured in an episode of Ant and Dec’s Push the Button and played to the biggest audience we will probably ever achieve (6.57 millon).

The band had been approached to play the programmes’ theme tune. As well as this, we were involved in a game that was entitled, “You do the Maths”. This entailed the contestants selecting members of the band such that their combined ages added up to a given number. To make the game more achievable for the contestants, the band numbers were swelled by some, let’s say, more elderly individuals. That might have accounted for those instruments that were being held upside down during the playing of the theme tune!

pop049It’s not something that we can normally report (and I suspect, for that matter, neither can other brass bands) but love bloomed at one of our extensive programme of Christmas Carol gigs. These included Westfield shopping complex, Parson’s Green, the Elk Bar in Fulham and Somerset House Ice rink. Continue reading »
