Band on the Run

Some members of Fulham Brass Band have just completed an incredible 15 mile run for the homelessness charity Shelter (1st October 2017).  The early Sunday morning start did not deter this mighty foursome who ran the Urban Rush challenge starting at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford and finishing in Bishop’s Park, Fulham.  Well done Matt Smith, Emmeline Downer, John Ward and Laura Wormington.  Now go and enjoy your well deserved Sunday roast!

Autumn Concert 2017 – Brass and Voices

It’s nearly time for our 2017 Autumn concert.  It will take place at our home – St Etheldreda’s church in Fulham on Sunday October 15th.  We will be performing an eclectic mix of music from John Williams to Andrew Lloyd Webber and from traditional marches to Celtic dance music, with a very welcome return of our very special guests Alle Choir!

Alle Choir London is a vibrant group of Polish singers based in London. The group was formed by Marta Mathea Radwan in November 2015.  Alle Choir have a diverse repertoire ranging from jazz standards and modern vocal compositions, to Polish carols and wedding songs. Alle Choir sing a cappella or with instrumental backing, bringing rich harmonies and lots of fun.  Their most notable recent performance was on BBC One’s “Pitch Battle”, where they were the only jazz group in the competition.

Tickets can be purchased in advance  or on the door. Get them here:  https://www.wegottickets.com/event/417291

Sad goodbyes and happy hellos!

We have recently said goodbye to our solo horn player.  We would like to officially thank Ally Crowther for doing an amazing job leading the Fulham horn section for over 12 years and wish her luck in her new pursuits.  Surely there’s nothing better to do than spend your Monday evenings down at a rousing Fulham Brass Band rehearsal?  If you fancy joining us,  we are looking for percussionists as well as a solo horn player!  If you are coming to London soon, drop us a line on our contact us page.

As well as our new solo euphonium Jonti Smith we have been joined by Catherine Whittingham on B flat Bass and Paul Findlay on bass trombone – both  members of the British Army Corps of Music.  Jenny Butterworth from St Pinnock band in Cornwall and RNCM graduate, Alice Godfrey have joined our solo cornet section.  Jonathan Barker joins us on first baritone having played for years with Salvation Army bands.

At the moment we are working hard for the Autumn Southern Counties Amateur Band Association (SCABA) contest in Crawley.  Wish us luck as we compete against Championship section bands! We are also preparing for our Autumn Concert on 15th October at our home, St Etheldreda’s Church in Fulham.  We have a tradition of including either a soloist or other music group in our concerts and this time we will see the Alle Choir join us again.  We hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Another trophy!

band 3An early start left Fulham Brass Band a little hungry and bleary eyed as we set off to compete at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain 2014 held at Cheltenham Racecourse.  Weeks of hard work from the band and our conductor John Ward had prepared us well but nothing could hold back the nerves felt by many on the day.  The very beautiful but technical “Traversada” composed by Oliver Waespi challenged all the bands but we managed to put on a pretty good show and were able to come away with another trophy as 3rd prize winners of the Second section.  Let’s hope our winning streak continues as we enter our most challenging of years competing in the 1st section from January!
