This morning the lucky listeners of BBC Radio London woke up to hear our very own MD Simon Jones talk about Fulham Brass Band and our upcoming contest in Stevanage this Sunday 18th March LIVE on The Breakfast Show hosted by Gaby Roslin and Paul Ross. It’s fair to say he gave listeners a bit of background about the Regional Brass Band Contests that are taking place all over the UK during Feb/March and the Brass Band movement in general.
There was even a couple of sound clips of the band playing, prodominently featuring Mick Dawson, Ally Crowther and Clare Jenneson
Well done Simon! Listen to the recording live at the following link - skip to 17 mins and 17 seconds
Both Staines Brass and Fulham Brass Band have a very important competition in Stevenage during the weekend 17th/18th March and are opening the doors to their rehearsal preparations.
There is only ONE MONTH to go until Fulham Brass Band perform in the second section of the L&SC Area contest on Sunday 18th March at Stevenage Arts Theatre.
The piece is Cross Patonce by Goff Richards, which is a tricky but beautiful piece divided into 3 movements that will put all of the bands to the test on the day! Fulham have plenty of rehearsals and sectionals coming up and look forward to the challenge over the next few weeks under the direction of our MD Simon Jones.

This annual event is an important and fun part of the brass band calendar where almost 5,000 brass players descend upon Butlins in Skegness to compete against each other in competitions over 6 sections spanning the entire weekend
We were drawn number 10 on the day which gave us just enough time for an impromptu rehearsal in one of the chalets! At around midday we headed over to the Second Section venue and put all our hardwork into practise by giving a good final rendition of ‘The Frogs of Aristophanes’ by Granville Bantock. This week we did a pub double by playing carols at The Elk Bar in Fulham and the Bison & Bird Bar in Clapham Common. It has been a busy December for the band and we have all gone our separate ways for a well-earned rest until rehearsals resume for our next stop.. Butlins in January!
Fulham Band would like to thank all the people who have watched us, booked us, supported us and played for us in 2011! We wish you a HAPPY CHRISTMAS and FANTASTIC NEW YEAR!
In the morning a few members entertained shoppers in Kings Mall, Hammersmith with a selection of Christmas Carols, accompanied by some very enthusiastic toy soldiers, elves and of course Santa Claus himself! We performed 4 half hour slots and drew a good crowd for the Mall’s hourly prize draw, which even a couple of our members were lucky enough to win much to the bands delight…
In the evening it was time for the highly anticipated SOLD OUT Festive Brass concert in The Barn Church Kew where three London music organisations came together for an evening of Christmas music, carols, raffle, mulled wine and mince pies!
Family and friends were entertained upon arrival by two brass quartets from the Richmond Youth Brass Band which led into the Sapphire Brass (chamber group of the Richmond Music Trust Brass Band) opening the concert with an antiphonal Gabriele piece Canzon Septimi toni No. 2.
This led into the Fulham Brass Band conducted by Musical Director Simon Jones performing an eclectic set Continue reading
