It’s a new year and already Fulham Brass Band are full steam ahead with competitions! Our recent visit to the Butlins Mineworkers Championship in January, was a good start to the year, where we competed against 16 national bands from around the country. We played ‘Kenilworth’ by Sir Arthur Bliss and although did not get the placing we would have hoped for, the band played a good performance and enjoyed the weekend bonding session as per usual!
In 6 weeks time we will be heading back to Stevenage to compete at the London and Southern Counties Regional Brass Band Competition and we will be looking for a good result, to follow on from our successes in 2013. The Band will spend the next few weeks working hard on the piece with a mixture of sectionals and full-band rehearsals working on Chaucer’s Tunes for Brass Band by Michael Ball. The Band will also be preparing our summer programme so that we can look ahead to another year of exciting concerts and projects! Continue reading
The presents are being bought, the turkey has been ordered and the mulled wine is bubbling on the stove.. meaning it is December in Fulham! The band have been preparing for our busy Carol Season and have a selection of excellent events that you would all be very welcome to come and support us at:
The full band will be performing our special Christmas set three times in the next 2 weeks. This Thursday 5th December we are delighted to be part of the JDRF Christmas Celebration Concert as part of Diabetes Research UK at St James Church near Paddington (from 7:00pm). Fulham is always delighted to be part of any charity work and we look forward to performing alongside the JDRF Type 1 Choir and the Get Gospel Choir. Then on Sunday 8th December we will be back in our rehearsal home of St John’s Church in Fulham for a special Christmas Advent service at 6:00pm led by Father Mark Osbourne. This will be the final concert of 2013 in Fulham and is free of charge with refreshments available. Our final main band concert will be Festive Brass at 4:00 pm on Sunday 15th December. This will be the third time the band has taken part in this special concert alongside our friends at Regent Brass and Richmond Youth Music Trust. It is sure to be a merry festive occasion with plenty of opportunities for carol singing!
Apart from these 3 concerts we will also be performing in several smaller carol gigs (please see the gigs list for an up to date list of where we will be!). We really hope to see all of you at one of our concerts and look forward to Christmas preparations and spreading the festive joy!
