New signings for Fulham Brass Band!

Fulham Brass Band are delighted to introduce 3 new players into our ranks, and strengthen the team before our forthcoming visit to the National Finals in September. Being based in London has meant that we have always welcomed players from around the world and our new members hail from as far afield as Scotland, Denmark and even Australia!

Stephen Wood (Eb Bass)

Stephen (Woody) recently joined the bass section on Eb and has played tuba in a variety of locations over his musical career including Warringah Concert Brass, Sydney Australia, ( l5 years) and Greenhall Band. Based in Gorebridge, Edinburgh he competed in the Scottish National Championships held during March 2000 at Walker Halls, Troon. A somewhat different musical occupation was playing in the Petit Orchestra D’Lest (Geneva Switzerland) where he was Tuba in a woodwind and string orchestra which focused on Eastern European orchestrations. He was also part of a Quartet of Tubas that took first place in the Open Quartet in the 2003 NSW State Championships in Sydney. Stephen’s profession is a Geologist with an oil exploration company. He spends his time attempting to encourage more students to study this interesting and vital profession.

Kim Jensen (Front Row Cornet)

Kim started on the tenor horn at age 10 but soon moved on to the trumpet. Since then he has played in many ensembles ranging from quintets and symphony orchestra to big bands and a salsa band. But always ends up back in brass bands! In his native Denmark he played for many years with Lyngby-Taarbaek brass band. During his student years in Manchester he played mostly with the Dobcross Silver band and is now proud to join Fulham band in London.

Grant Jarvie (Soprano Cornet)

Grant Jarvie started playing soprano cornet aged 8, and has continued ever since. Previously a member of City Of Discovery Band in Dundee, Grant is a well-known performer and soloist in Scotland, and regularly appears as a guest player for various bands at all levels, as well as contributing to various CD and TV appearances. After moving to London, Grant is proud to hold the soprano cornet seat at Fulham Brass Band.

A London Overture for a London Band!

Fulham Brass Band are getting ready for the London & Southern Counties Area contest at the the Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre this Sunday 22nd March 2015. Under the direction of MD John Ward, the band have been working spectacularly hard on Philip Sparke’s piece ‘A London Overture’. The piece is characteristically enjoyable Sparke music, with many challenging elements that are certainly worth the effort!

The adjudicators Michael Fowles and Jim Davies have a busy morning this Sunday, with 15 bands from around the region fighting to display their best efforts to take a prize back to their respective band rooms. As this is the first Area contest for Fulham in the First Section, the band will certainly be hoping to make an impression, and improve on our 7th place at the recent Butlins Contest.

Good Luck Team Fulham! Do follow our Facebook/Twitter page for live updates from the day and keep everything crossed that a central London band can do all they can to perform A London Overture and make London proud!
