So, the Olympics are finally here and the atmosphere has been building since the spectacular opening ceremony on Friday 27th July. The band had been hired by the very appropriately named “Fulham Brass” to entertain the crowds outside his shop on Fulham Road as the Men’s Cycle Road race went past in the afternoon of Saturday 28th July. There was a noticeable buzz in the air as the band set up (probably not down to us) and we were entertained by the Bradley Wiggins impersonators on the balcony on the house opposite. Expectation grew as the cavalcade built, followed by the riders, albeit all too rapidly to get a really good view.
The crowd were entertained by a fairly standard ramblers set including “Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines” as the riders passed. The sign outside the shop proved to be too good a photo opportunity to pass up. Certainly our new find on trombone, Vicky Curran, was keen to capture members of the band alongside the banner. As the roads were largely closed to traffic when we had finished, the band made the decision that we should wait at the White Horse in Parson’s Green until such times as we could easily get home.
