Fulham were booked to appear at Comic Relief’s 24 Hour Panel People – the UK’s first-ever live, online streamed 24 hour panel show. David Walliams was to be involved in the entire show from start to finish and joined and ably assisted by a whole host of stars including David Tennant, Jack Dee, Stephen Fry, Miranda Hart, Claudia Winkleman, Jason Manford, David Mitchell, Dara O’Briain, Paul O’Grady, Sue Perkins, Jo Brand, Jimmy Carr, Lee Mack, Richard Bacon, Vernon Kay, Sir David Frost, Barbara Windsor, Russell Tovey, Charlie Brooker, Christopher Biggins, Ulrika Jonsson, Patricia Hodge, Jedward plus many more.
The band arrived at the BBC studios at around 10:30pm on 5th March and rehearsed the piece “Galloping Home”, known to many as the theme to the Black Beauty television series. It was intended that we march to this, which, although possible, would involve a pace that might make us look more like the military band of a banana republic than the classy brass band that regular visitors to this site have come to know.
Unfortunately, following rehearsal we were informed that the webcast was overrunning and that our slot and that of another panel show had to be cancelled. Our disappointment was somewhat ameliorated, however, by the news that we were able to make full and unfettered use of the Green Room. We made great use of the hospitality and networked and celebrity-spotted to good effect.
Thanks to all at the BBC for their hospitality; we hope that, as ever, Comic Relief proves to be a great success.
