fulhamlogosmall The Fulham Brass Band have now finalised the rehearsal schedule for the Area contest on March 20th. The set piece is ‘Labour and Love’ by Percy Fletcher and the score makes demands of a number of the band’s principal players:-

  • Principal Cornet: Victoria Curran
  • Solo Horn: Ally Crowther
  • Solo Baritone: Louise Harrison
  • Solo Trombone: Paul Lynch
  • Solo Euphonium: Mike Dean

Chris Following the departure of Andrew Sladen from the band in January, an EGM was held in early February to appoint an interim Band Secretary. We are pleased to announce that Chris Wiggins has been elected to fill this very important role for the band until the Annual General Meeting in April. Ally Crowther has also been elected as interim Band Treasurer. Both will now work with the Chairman and MD over the next couple of months to put in place a plan to help the band to continue to develop during 2010.

Andy The band is very sad to lose our principal cornet and band secretary, Andrew Sladen, due to a relocation with work. Andy served Fulham Brass Band fantastically over a number of years as principal cornet player and during the last 12 months as a very effective and well liked Band Secretary. The Butlins contest in January was due to be Andy’s last official job with the band, but it has been agreed that Andy will come back for the Area contest in March. This contest marks a key stage in the development of the band over the last couple of years and top 5 result may see the band get promoted to the 2nd section for the first time in its history. A process to appoint a new principal cornet will now begin.

The composer was actually in the hall during our performance and he was very complementary about our musical approach to his music. We hope we will have the opportunity to play more of his music in the near future.
